In July 2001 my good friend, Prosper Askew who died in Aug 2004, suggested that I accompany him and share his double cabin on an NCL cruise of the Aegean Sea in October of that year. I had never been on a cruise, nor had ever visited the Aegean area. So since I had enough $$$, or thought I did, I accepted his invite.

On the 8th day of the cruise the ship berthed in Istanbul in the early morning. I still remember the amber lighting of the city and its mosques. The plan was to spend 4 days in Istanbul and return to Victoria.

On the second day I visited this fort which is located north of Old Istanbul on the Bosporus. To get there I took a ferry boat across from large market near the central rail station.
