20 years ago the Berlin Wall cracked open

At the time it seemed that even if the Soviet leader of the day, Gorbachov, talked Glastnost that as far as East Germany was concerned the Berlin continued to define its policy of physical control. But then on Nov 9 this began to happen in broad daylight and the Ost polizei didn’t know what to make of it at first:
