So many things in China are oversized and this panoramic view inside the Stadium doesn’t disappoint! Thx NY Times.

Beijing air
Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/08/01
Viewers of my blog have shown some interest in my posts about reports by James Fallows, who has been a Beijing resident. This morning I found a new quite comprehensive report by the Asia Society. Here is the URL www.asiasociety.org/beijingair
Great video and still pictures over a few months.

The Great Wall and Water
Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/07/28
I had never seen an image of the Great Wall that included water until I found this image.
But there must be more than one such site in China.
Here is a re-rendering of an image snapped near Beijing.

A buidling in Beijing next to the Olympics site
Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/07/16
I have wondered when I posted images of Beijing air blogged by James Fallows if the air was uniform all over Beijing.
In my view the photo on the right shows Beijing air that is quite clear and unsmoggy. Let’s hope this will be the case in the latter part of August.
This building is part of Pangu Plaza which overlooks Beijing’s Olympic Park.
I found this night view of the Plaza and Olympic Park on the Danwei web site.
I believe this a manufactured view or digitally created image! But the visual effect is eye-catching.

Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/07/14
with 26 days before 08/08/08 Olympics opening day and here it is Picnik-ed up a tad:
Mr. Fallows tells us that this is before factories are shut down to give the air a better chance to lighten up!

A picture from an older seemingly calmer Beijing
Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/07/07
I have copied quite a few images here of Beijing today with its hustle, bustle and constant teardown and building mania. So I couldn’t resist this image of a seemingly calmer Beijing from early 1900s:
It appears in a recent travelogue book by Michael Meyer, The last days of Old Beijing, which is reviewed today in NYTimes.

Beijing air on July 2, 2008 or 37 days till Olympics 2008
Posted by BobG in Vancouver on 2008/07/02
James Fallows has offered snaps of Beijing air as seen from his apt. window. Needless to say the heavy smog shown in every photo is disconcerting, but not surprising to me since I visited Beijing in 2004 and 2005. Here is the latest snap:
Good luck Olympians!
Oh Oh! Here’s the latest Beijing air pollution news and it ain’t good!

Gee the usual air thickener in Beijing looks middling, not so good but not so bad! What will it be in 40 days from today?
