Gov Palin’s earmarks for Alaska

A recent ad from McCain/Palin decries “the Obama campaign is disrespectful … because they say Palin is lying”. Well now Wall Street Journal weighs in with this:

Last week, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain said his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, hadn’t sought earmarks or special-interest spending from Congress, presenting her as a fiscal conservative. But state records show Gov. Palin has asked U.S. taxpayers to fund $453 million in specific Alaska projects over the past two years.

These projects include more than $130 million in federal funds that would benefit Alaska’s fishing industry and an additional $9 million to help Alaska oil companies. She also has sought $4.5 million to upgrade an airport on a Bering Sea island that has a year-round population of less than 100.

Well somebody is lying and it even seems that it may be Palin, McCain or somebody in the McCain/Palin camp. As for disrespectful, there are lots of US newspapers and newsmakers who are questioning McCain’s sense of honor during the dramatic turn his campaign has taken since the Republican convention in St Paul.

Many have questioned Palin’s readiness for the VP position, especially since her interview with Chas Gibson of ABC News. I wonder now if McCain is ready to be President given the campaign being run for him with his approval!

  1. According to, Palin’s lie about not quitting her job also involves misappropriating hunting language that really doesn’t apply. I agree. I wonder how many people will call her on it?
