David Foster Wallace was a tennis prodigy and wrote about Federer Moments

A. O. Scott informed us about DF Wallace’s writing talents and how he wrote exceptional magazine articles, including this one about the remarkable quality of Roger’s game in 2006. Here’s a short excerpt:

Almost anyone who loves tennis and follows the men’s tour on television has, over the last few years, had what might be termed Federer Moments. These are times, as you watch the young Swiss play, when the jaw drops and eyes protrude and sounds are made that bring spouses in from other rooms to see if you’re O.K.

That was Roger then. Today his tennis feels more fragile, not so superb with many moments of inimitable perfect winners hit from impossible positions, at least in the views of that Oracle of Tennis, Johnny Mc!

But he should win more Grand Slams, maybe as many as four more!
