Thoughts about things on the web

The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Neihbur

leave a comment »

Here it is clipped from the Wikipedia bio post re Neihbur:

“God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things that should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.”[

At some later date Neihbur had this to say about the origins of this oft quoted invocation;

Yet even Dr. Niebuhr added at least a touch of doubt to his claim when he told one interviewer, ‘Of course, it may have been spooking around for years, even centuries, but I don’t think so. I honestly do believe that I wrote it myself.'”[7]

There are other variants out there, but this is considered (by the Wikipedia post) to be the original. This prayer is part of A. A.’s credo.
