Meat eating and the environment
Some writer much wiser and better informed than me said, more or less, “We are what we eat!” You can agree or disagree, but we should pay more attention to what we eat and what impact collective eating has on the environment. A rancher and lawyer has a thoughtful article in today’s NY Times, my newspaper (hardcopy/online) of record. Here’s an excerpt:
Rampant waste at the processing, retail and household stages compounds the problem. About half of the food produced in the United States is thrown away, according to University of Arizona research. Thus, a consumer could measurably reduce personal global warming impact simply by more judicious grocery purchasing and use.
And I would say that the above applies to the Americas as a whole and not just the US!
So from now on pay more attention to how what you eat adds to the negative burden on the environment.
