The end for Lance!

with one comment

The headline of the NY Times Sports article says it all:

In a Final Push, Armstrong falls short

And here is a snip of their photo of him falling short:

I can’t feel indifferent to Lance’s performance now or winning 7 Tour de France titles. He was and is a cycling great, whatever the outcome of the current US Federal investigation  of him and some of his close associates from the US Postal Service team days.

It seems only fitting that this visible end for Lance should have taken place on the climb of the Col de Tourmalet!

Update: I have just viewed Tour de France TV footage showing Lance’s attack and it was something to see how hard he did try. The scenery of the Col de Tourmalet was stunning of course!

  1. It was a joy to watch Lance go out with all guns blazing, even though he didn’t get the stage win he craved. And he did it with class, asking for no favours and not detracting from the battle for yellow.

I wonder if the peloton will do something in Paris? The romantic in me would love it if, when the race turns on to the Champs Elysees for the first time – where the peloton is traditionally led by the team of the yellow jersey – Armstrong would be allowed to ride beside them in that moment? If it is Contador in yellow, that would be particularly poignant given their poor relationship, and it would be a real PR coup for the Spaniard after some of his, er, unpopular racing decisions recently …
