Big Picture offers us just that, big pictures. Here is one of these images from the Zhouqu area in Gansu Province hit by a massive landslide on Aug 8, 2010.

Note the date in the picture’s caption:

Compare this image to the one just below of Yangtze River water rushing out of the 3 Gorges Dam. Can any contrast be starker.

There are lots of international reports about the misery of Pakistani millions, but you don’t hear much out of  Gansu province.

But I found another image of contrast from an FP collection:

Here is an image of Chongching which is more in line with the building frenzy image of China!

    The construction going on in Chongching does look a little bit like someone arrived with a really big Lego set and declared, “Let’s build!”
