Alberto C won the Giro d’Italia but the Tour de France hasn’t gone his way in 2011

leave a comment »

His frustration with the Tour this year sort of burst out in some individual aggression on a Tour fan who just got too close to Alberto in his penultimate fight to gain the yellow jersey and top GC standing.

These kinds of Tour fans behave clownishly and don’t give much room to the competitors, especially on the HC climbs, like the Alpe d’Huez. More power to Alberto here since he seems to have acted in a normal human, like “Get out of the way you idiot!”

A majestic view from the ridge above Changbai Shan

The day I was driven to this ridge line in 2005, the view was completely obstructed by opaque cloud combined with  high winds. I never saw this view.

Latest pic of Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet

I post published photos of famous places. I saw this photo in a NY Review of  Books article about the issues facing the Chinese Govt because of the Dalai Lama’s announced retirement from political affairs.

This is the first photo I have seen of this site with the Tibetan mountains in the background.

Japan is so much in the news these days with depressing and negative news that it seems ok to post a good image, as a simple counterpoint.

Here’s the link to the source!

Phallic symbols in Bhutan

leave a comment »

Bhutan shares borders with India and China.

The image below is clear evidence that Asia offers many cultural variants that would be considered gross and completely immodest in Western cultures and maybe even in China.

Check out this link to learn how and why Bhutanese use phallic symbols to “protect” their homes.

Here is an image that is clear evidence of the use of phallic symbols on outside walls of family homes in Bhutan:

Yes, the caption says that the phallic symbols “welcome visitors” to Bhutanese homes. Is it the Himalayan mountain air that affects them?

I wonder how phallus symbols fit with use of the left and right facing svastika in Eastern cultures. No doubt politically correct fanatics will deplore these “far out” symbols but those are Western values and in this global world all symbology should have equal visibility and cultural treatment. That is my humble opinion!
