“Cannonball Cav” is a very apt moniker for Marc Cavendish

It’s that 3 weeks every year, in July, when about 200 professional bike riders engage their bodies and minds on that most gruelling sports event, the Tour de France.

Here is a pic of him winning Stage 5 of the Tour de France:

Here is a quote from him after the race (via “The armchair sports )

An exhausted Cavendish spoke at length about his win at a post-stage press conference, ranking it as one of his very best:

It was on the scale of my 2009 stage win [in Aubenas] really, but it was more difficult, because it was unexpected. The stage was hard, the finish was really hard, the uphill. That finish was steep and I went into the red. I was lucky to have my guys, six guys to keep me out of the wind all day. I had Gossy and Tony Martin on that little uphill.

And he’s back for the 2011 cycling season. Here is a picture of him winning a Giro D’Italia stage. Apparently he retired from the race after this his second sprint win in the Giro this year to rest and get ready for the Tour de France.

I can’t think of anything more interesting of a crash scene, especially if it includes Marc Cavendish who is the master of the finishing sprinters

There he is on his back in the lower left of the image! It happened during a stage of the Tour de Suisse.
